A Letter from your Parish Priest
My Dear JORS Parishioners,
I hope and pray this message finds you in good health and spirit. As we enjoy the season of summer, I pray that God will protect and keep you safe in your travels as you spend time with family and friends. I lovingly remind you to make sure that going to Church, especially on a Sunday will be part of your itinerary. As much as we enjoy being with family and friends, let us not forget our love for God above all else by keeping our Sunday obligation because this will help us always follow and walk in the ways of the Lord as mentioned in the Book of Deuteronomy.
I would like to also take this opportunity to update you about what has been going on in our parish recently. I have good news and bad news.
Starting with the good news.
The Summer Bible camp was a success. I was very glad to see our kids very eager to learn about the Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. I hope that this Summer Bible Camp will instill in them the need to spend time with our Lord Jesus Christ present in the Eucharist. Of course, this will only be possible with the assistance and sacrifice of you my dear parents. Let us never grow slack in helping the younger generation grow and understand their faith more. It is the greatest gift you can give them. I am grateful to my parochial vicar, Fr. Rafael, our Mustard Seed Youth Group and to all our parishioners who volunteered to make this a memorable experience for our children. All of you are a great gift to this parish.
We have also began the Family Life ministry. The initial gathering for those who signed up to be part of this ministry began last July 8. The second gathering was held last July 15 from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM. I pray that you will consider being part of this great ministry because it will aim to assist you in discovering ways to strengthen and inspire hope in the family within the context of our faith as Catholic Christians.
New Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors have been installed. As the Diocese of Charleston has now allowed communion under both species, I am very grateful to those who are willing to be part of this wonderful ministry. The willingness to serve by proclaiming the Word of God and giving the Body and Blood of Christ to our brothers and sisters must always be a humbling experience because unworthy as we are, he is the only one who makes us worthy to serve him and our brothers and sisters in this manner. For you who said Yes to serve Christ in this ministry, I thank you! You are a great help to your Adorno priests as you assist in the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist.
Homebound and Shut-in Ministry just had their first meeting. Those who are involved in this ministry will have the ability to bring Christ, who is present in the Holy Eucharist, to our brothers and sisters who are ill and are unable to come to church. This great ministry is reflective of the words in the third book of John as he wishes Gaius; Beloved, I hope you are prospering in every respect and are in good health, just as your soul is prospering. We make sure that our brothers and sisters who are ill and are unable to join us for Sunday worship will have the chance to receive Christ and be one with us in the Celebration of the Eucharist so that their souls may prosper together with ours. This great ministry will be a reminder to our homebound brothers and sisters that they are part of a great big family of faith and are not abandoned or forgotten.
I am happy to inform you that we have hired a new Director of Religious Education. Her name is Sandra Garcia. Sandra came from the Diocese of Gary in Indiana and moved to the upstate with her family last year. She is bilingual and has been involved with the Religious Education Program in her home parish back in Indiana before moving to South Carolina. She will be assisted by Sister Jocelyn. Let us welcome Ms. Sandra to our parish family and let us pray for her as she begins this fruitful ministry.
Now the bad news.
I regret to inform you about the sad news that we have decided to end the SPARTOBERFEST. As much as both parishioners and non-parishioners enjoy coming to our parish for good food and great music every year during the Fall, I and the SPARTOBERFEST Committee Coordinator, Ron Stanley, agreed that it would be very challenging to continue because of the difficulty of finding the volunteers to assist in the preparation and the rising cost to run this enormous event. The festival brought people from all denominations to our church and showed them the love and kindness of the Catholic community for the last few years. I would like to thank Ron and each member of the Committee. May God continuously bless you and your loved ones for the sacrifice and dedication you have shown. I am still hopeful that in the future, we will come up with an event during the fall to bring all of us together as a Christian Family.
Let us find ways and the time to be of service to our brothers and sisters. Each of us have been gifted with talents that are not only meant to serve our own purpose, but to serve the people of God because after all, God does not look at our ability or our inability, but rather seeks our availability! Queridos feligreses de la JORS,
Espero y ruego que este mensaje los encuentre con buena salud y espíritu. Mientras disfrutamos de la temporada de verano, rezo para que Dios les proteja y les mantenga a salvo en sus viajes mientras pasan tiempo con su familia y amigos. Les recuerdo con cariño que se aseguren de que ir a la Iglesia, especialmente los domingos, forme parte de su itinerario. Por mucho que nos guste estar con la familia y los amigos, no olvidemos nuestro amor a Dios por encima de todo cumpliendo con nuestra obligación dominical porque esto nos ayudará a seguir y caminar siempre por los caminos del Señor como se menciona en el Libro del Deuteronomio.
También me gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para ponerles al día sobre lo que ha estado sucediendo en nuestra parroquia recientemente. Tengo buenas y malas noticias.
Comenzando con las buenas noticias.
El campamento bíblico de verano fue un éxito. Me dio mucho gusto ver a nuestros niños muy ansiosos de aprender acerca de la Presencia de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo en el Santísimo Sacramento. Espero que este Campamento Bíblico de Verano inculque en ellos la necesidad de pasar tiempo con nuestro Señor Jesucristo presente en la Eucaristía. Por supuesto, esto sólo será posible con la ayuda y el sacrificio de ustedes, mis queridos padres. No cejemos nunca en nuestro empeño de ayudar a las nuevas generaciones a crecer y a comprender mejor su fe. Es el mejor regalo que puede darles. Agradezco a mi vicario parroquial, el P. Rafael, a nuestro Grupo Juvenil Semilla de Mostaza y a todos nuestros feligreses que se ofrecieron como voluntarios para hacer de ésta una experiencia memorable para nuestros niños. Todos ustedes son un gran regalo para esta parroquia.
También hemos comenzado el ministerio de Vida Familiar. La reunión inicial para aquellos que se inscribieron para ser parte de este ministerio comenzó el pasado 8 de julio. La segunda reunion fue el 15 de Julio de 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Rezo para que consideren ser parte de este gran ministerio porque tendrá como objetivo ayudarles a descubrir maneras de fortalecer e inspirar esperanza en la familia dentro del contexto de nuestra fe como cristianos católicos.
Nuevos Ministros de Eucaristía y Lectores han sido instalados. Como la Diócesis de Charleston ahora ha permitido la comunión bajo ambas especies, estoy muy agradecido con aquellos que están dispuestos a ser parte de este maravilloso ministerio. La voluntad de servir proclamando la Palabra de Dios y dando el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo a nuestros hermanos y hermanas debe ser siempre una experiencia de humildad porque indignos como somos, Él es el único que nos hace dignos de servirle a Él y a nuestros hermanos y hermanas de esta manera. A vosotros que habéis dicho sí a servir a Cristo en este ministerio, ¡os doy las gracias! Ustedes son una gran ayuda para sus sacerdotes de Adorno cuando asisten en la celebración de la Santísima Eucaristía.
El Ministerio de Enfermos Confinados y Reclusos acaba de tener su primera reunión. Los que participan en este ministerio tendrán la capacidad de llevar a Cristo, que está presente en la Sagrada Eucaristía, a nuestros hermanos y hermanas que están enfermos y no pueden asistir a la iglesia. Este gran ministerio es un reflejo de las palabras en el tercer libro de Juan cuando le desea a Gayo: Amado, espero que estés prosperando en todos los aspectos y que tengas buena salud, así como tu alma está prosperando. Nos aseguramos de que nuestros hermanos y hermanas que están enfermos y no pueden unirse a nosotros para el culto dominical tengan la oportunidad de recibir a Cristo y ser uno con nosotros en la Celebración de la Eucaristía para que sus almas prosperen junto con las nuestras. Este gran ministerio será un recordatorio para nuestros hermanos y hermanas confinados en casa de que forman parte de una gran familia de fe y que no están abandonados ni olvidados.
Me complace informarles que hemos contratado a una nueva Directora de Educación Religiosa. Su nombre es Sandra Garcia. Sandra vino de la Diócesis de Gary en Indiana y se mudó al norte del estado con su familia el año pasado. Ella es bilingüe y ha estado involucrada con el Programa de Educación Religiosa en su parroquia en Indiana antes de mudarse a Carolina del Sur. Ella será asistida por la Hermana Jocelyn. Démosle la bienvenida a la Sra. Sandra a nuestra familia parroquial y oremos por ella mientras comienza este fructífero ministerio.
Ahora las malas noticias.
Lamento comunicarles la triste noticia de que hemos decidido poner fin al SPARTOBERFEST. A pesar de que tanto los feligreses como los no feligreses disfrutan viniendo a nuestra parroquia para disfrutar de buena comida y buena música cada año durante el otoño, yo y el Coordinador del Comité SPARTOBERFEST, Ron Stanley, acordamos que sería muy difícil continuar debido a la dificultad de encontrar los voluntarios para ayudar en la preparación y el aumento de los costos para ejecutar este enorme evento. Durante los últimos años, el festival ha atraído a personas de todas las confesiones a nuestra iglesia y les ha mostrado el amor y la amabilidad de la comunidad católica. Me gustaría dar las gracias a Ron y a cada uno de los miembros del Comité. Que Dios los bendiga continuamente a todos ustedes y a sus seres queridos por el sacrificio y la dedicación que habéis demostrado. Busquemos formas y tiempo para servir a nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Cada uno de nosotros ha sido dotado con talentos que no sólo están destinados a servir a nuestro propio propósito, sino para servir al pueblo de Dios, porque después de todo, Dios no mira nuestra capacidad o nuestra incapacidad, ¡sino que busca nuestra disponibilidad! ¡AMRG!
